MY NAME IS STUART HOLLAND…

I am an artist, writer, and from Boise, Idaho. I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts from Boise State University in 2014 with an emphasis in printmaking. My artistic practice consisted of predominantly visual arts for much of my life - going through phases where I worked with a variety of mediums including watercolor, charcoal, woodcut//linocut, and gold leaf. In the past few years, I’ve started to also write poems and short stories as a cross-disciplinary means of exploring different avenues of storytelling and how the use of different mediums impact how a story is told and interpreted by the reader//viewer. Whether I’m utilizing painted images or written language, much of my work has strong narrative themes relating to Nature, our relationship to ourselves, and the relationship we have to place and the Land, and the interconnected nature of Life itself. I create these modern mythologies to encourage viewers and readers to reflect upon the roles that these relationships play in each of our lives and the impact that the stories we tell have on the collective consciousness of our planet. I’m a firm believer that stories are a powerful form of magic - one that we underestimate but are constantly engaging with. The stories we tell ourselves, tell one another, and ultimately pass on to future generations matter. It’s the stories we tell which ultimately shape the world we live in, connect us to our past, and largely dictate the trajectory of our future.
